Description

Join exhibition curator Dr Makoto Takahashi for a tour of Picturing the Invisible: Earthquake, Meltdown, Memory at the Heong Gallery. No registration needed.

Picturing the Invisible: Earthquake, Meltdown, Memory is an academic and artistic partnership exploring the communities ravaged by the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake. It provides a striking photographic portrait of communities living with radiation and trauma in Fukushima and neighbouring prefectures, more than a decade later. The photographs by leading Japanese and international artists are accompanied by essays from policymakers, academics, and environmental activists. Shown previously at the Royal Geographical Society, London, and TU Munich, the exhibition won the 2022 Ziman Award for ‘significant innovative collaborative activity to promote public interaction with science and technology’ by the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology.

This exhibition is curated by Dr. Makoto Takahashi in collaboration with his students at the Department for Science and Technology Studies, TU Munich. It is brought to you with the generous support of a Fulbright-Lloyd’s Award, an AHRC Impact Award, and a Sasakawa Foundation Grant. We are proud to be official partners of the Japanese Embassy in London in the Japan-UK Season of Culture.

Dates: 23 February to 23 April 2023.
Opening Times: Wednesday to Sunday 12PM – 5PM.
