Description

This event is now full. If you would like to join the waitlist, please email cvc@aha.cam.ac.uk.

As part of the 2023 Cambridge Festival, we invite you to join us for a tour of the Fitzwilliam Museum, investigated via the theme of power. In this out-of-hours tour, you will see behind the scenes of a major British public collection and discover how one modern museum operates.

During the course of the hour-long tour, you will travel through history, encountering objects that reveal the power dynamics of the period in which they were produced, the Victorian foundations of the collection, and the priorities and hierarchies of the present day. Join Professor Carrie Vout, Dr Neal Spencer, Dr Georgios Markou, and Dr Che Gossett for an unbridled tour through the history of the collection.

By these means, your tour guides will examine how the collection has been formed and what power hierarchies remain visible (or obscured) in the Museum now.
